Mónica González is a woman that I
admire so much. She is a chilean journalist who in 2019 was awarded for the
national journalism award. This prize was an acknowledgment for more than
40 years of her work for free and independent journalism.
One of her most valuable work was about bring to light, trought reports
and interviews, the human rights violations during the dictatorship. Was in
this time that she worked as investigation reporter for Cauce and Analisis
magazines. Because at that time, were the written media, especially which were
independent and opossed to the undemocratic government, which had a main role
for the freedom of expresion and against the censure.
In fact she had to go into exile in Paris as a result of the political
persecussion of the regime, but this didn't mean an end to her career as
jorunalism. Actually, she stayed working during and after the dictatorship.
She published a lot of books wich she compiled her main journalistic
works.
It was already in democracy when she founded CIPER Chile, the first independent
jounalistic investigation center of the country, that she directed until 2019.
I really think that this meant an important milestone for the history of a
country with highly concentrated media in big economic consortia.
I believe that it's very important to recognize in life women like
Mónica, who spend all her career working for a better journalism, in a field
very sexist, and also fighting against a system dominated by economic interest.
She's admirable and with such a kind temper.
